Solo/Ensemble Contest 2017 Phase 2

Phase 2: Accompanists and begin practicing!

On January 28, 2017, the Bremen Band Program will be participating in the Indiana State School Music Association District Solo and Ensemble Contest at Plymouth High School in Plymouth, Indiana. This is a huge, all day event where thousands of students from the state of Indiana gather to perform solo and small group pieces for judges and each other. For many students, this is one of their favorite days of the year in the band program! It also help develop vital independent music skills, improving their musicianship.

Sign Ups have finished, and now we are beginning to prepare for the festival.

Here's the scoop:

  • Students will begin receiving their pieces immediately after Thanksgiving, and all students will have their pieces in hand before Christmas break.

  • Students should begin practicing at home immediately when they receive their pieces, each day for a minimum of 10 minutes.

  • Use a metronome.

  • Break down the piece into small pieces and practice them until there are no mistakes.

  • SLOW PRACTICE is GOOD PRACTICE

  • Students performing a solo need to secure a piano accompanist for their performance. Any family member or friend with the appropriate amount of skill is welcome to play. Alternatively, the following pianists are willing to perform for your child for a small fee.

  • Louise Keck 574-209-0422

  • Bethany Muck 618-910-1431

  • The accompanists above will accept students on a first come, first serve basis.

  • The deadline for securing an accompanists for solos is December 13.

  • Students performing in ensembles should attempt to meet as a full group a minimum of once per week. Students will need to practice on their own as well!

  • The band room will always be open for practicing from 7-8 am and from 3-4 pm each school day.
