On Saturday, February 28, 19 Bremen Public School Students traveled to the State Solo/Ensemble Festival and performed with other elite student musicians all over the state. Students qualified for this festival by receiving a gold rating at the District Solo/Ensemble Festival last month, while performing at the highest difficulty level, "Group I."
The results? Spectacular!
Highlights:
Joshua Staiger earned three gold ratings for three different performances: a solo and two different ensembles.
Jeremy Prawat earned a 9.5, or half a point from a perfect score on his marimba solo. He performed the piece from memory, and is only in 8th grade.
Jessica Jimenez, Joshua Staiger, Andrew Prawat, and Freeman Patterson earned a perfect score on their clarinet quartet. The judge wrote, "WOW! I feel bad that I cannot think of anything suggest for improvement."
100% of our ensembles and 80% of our solos received a gold rating. 16 out of 19 entries received gold ratings overall.
Twenty students attended the state competition. This is a new record for the band program in the past 11 years since Mr. Sutton became director.
