HS Concert Band Earns Gold at State Qualifiers

On Friday evening at Kokomo High School, the Bremen High School Concert Band performed for the Indiana State School Music Association High School State Qualifiers.

Before an attentive audience and three judges, the band performed at the highest difficulty level (Group I), earning a gold rating from all three judges.

It wasn't over there! Afterwards, the students moved into a different room, where they were given 10 minutes to look at a piece they had never seen before, and then perform it for another judge. This is called "Sightreading," and the students earned a silver rating here, missing gold by just half a point.

In all, 65 bands performed at State Qualifiers in five venues across the state. The top 16 bands by total score move on to a State Finals event in Indianapolis next week. While Bremen did not score high enough to continue, the difficulty of the event, high rating received, and combined with the fact that only three schools under the enrollment of 500 state-wide even attempted the event means that Bremen has multiple reasons to be proud.

These students should be extremely proud of their accomplishments. This has been a banner year for the Bremen Band program, and we anticipate being able to announce another very special award in the next month or so!
